Life Branch Church exists to offer all people, regardless of culture, religion, sexual orientation, age or race an inclusive space to find spiritual care. Life Branch Church also invites all people to develop a life of volunteering, serving, working together to care for the social needs of the wider community. This includes the following:
Weekly worship space for spiritual care and wellness
Interactive children’s and youth programs to help children and youth develop lifestyles of caring for themselves for others and finding positive, healthy ways of impacting their circle of friends as well as to help youth build leadership and healthy communication skills.
Working with our congregational care team cares for seniors and families who are suffering or dealing with illness or loss.
Working with our organization partners with Feed Nova Scotia by helping run a food bank which serves over 100 families in our wider community.
We also facilitate a benevolent fund that serves to meet the ever-growing needs of individuals and families dealing with economic stresses. This includes, but is not limited to, helping with heating and power bills, rental issues, emergency food, clothing, etc. Our organization has developed a partnership with newcomer-refugee families through our Friends For Refugees, Dartmouth Initiative.
Summer student job description:
We are seeking enthusiastic students who can assist in establishing strong relationships in the new community. Students will help find ways of serving children, youth, and seniors in the community and help re-establish a sense of connection and relationship lost during times of isolation because of COVID-19.
Under the direction of the pastor, children’s pastor, and ministry coordinator, the summer student is responsible
1) Children’s Program: Students will be responsible for organizing and coordinating a weekly one-hour fun, interactive program involving music, story telling, games and art, either online or in-person depending on current Covid-19 restrictions. Students will also be responsible for running a weeklong camp in the summer which will include organizing volunteers and supplies, maintaining a strict budget, and excellent time management to host children at a 3–4-hour long camp where they will participate in games, art, and music.
2) Students will help with technical support. They will assist the AV (audiovisual) team in learning how to livestream events and edit videos. They will receive detailed training on live-streaming equipment such as cameras, computers, and soundboards.
3) Mentoring Youth: students will plan gatherings and outings for youth in the community. The purpose of this will be to create connections and community among youth in the area as well as build leadership skills in the students.
4) Community Outreach: The students will assist the ministry coordinator and the community outreach team to host three outreach events in the facility parking lot. These events may include but are not limited to: a bouncy castle festival, a food truck festival, and a block party.
5) Connecting with Seniors. The students will also be assisting our Congregational Care team to help the most vulnerable in our community with a garden party and possible game nights.
6) Work with our ministry coordinator and media producer to help maintain a social media presence as well as website design.
The summer student positions may include but are not limited to the above description. We want each student to bring their skills and ideas to this position!
Qualifications for this position include the following:
1. Interest in working with children and youth and an interest in helping youth develop bonds with seniors
2. Interest in offering children/youth programs in under-resourced neighbourhoods
3. Strong written and oral communication skills
4. Ability to work in a team setting
5. Self-motivated
6. Skills in, or Interest in, learning to use digital media platforms and working with social media platforms
7. First aid certificate; successful completion of an RCMP vulnerable sector check
